2021-2022 Color Guard
LAKE CORMORANT HIGH SCHOOL
COLOR GUARD HANDBOOK
EXPECTATIONS OF COLOR GUARD MEMBERS:
THE GREATEST SINGLE FACTOR THAT WILL DETERMINE THE SUCCESS OF ANY ORGANIZATION IS ATTITUDE.
It takes dedication to reach goals. Students are expected to come to rehearsal with right attitude of sincerity, concentration, and dedication to working hard to achieve success with her teammates. A good attitude and a strong work ethic is the difference between a winning organization and a mediocre group.
Members of the LCHS color guard are required to make a commitment to the program through their time and effort. As a member, you are required to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule as well as show up on time. You are also expected to follow all of the behavior rules set by LCHS and to respect your instructors, peers, and chaperones.
ATTENDANCE:
Camp:
It is mandatory that all members attend the color guard camp during the summer and summer rehearsals. Students must be present for the entirety of the camp. Absence from the camp may result in the removal of a student from the color guard. The dates and times for the camp are already in place and all color guard members have to make plans around these camp dates.
Rehearsals:
It is mandatory that all members attend all scheduled rehearsals throughout the marching season.
Absence from rehearsal will only be excused:
a.) If the student had an excused absence from school the day of the rehearsal (in which case, the instructor must see a signed admit slip from the office)
b.) If the student must miss a rehearsal outside of regular school hours for a reason the instructor deems excusable.
This will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the instructor and ample notice of the student's absence must be given. If a conflict does arise during the school year, the absence of a color guard member from a rehearsal due to the member attending a different school function must be approved in advance. No unexcused absences will be accepted. Once you receive an unexcused absence, you will be removed from the team or put on probationary status. Participation in other activities is encouraged. However, since color guard is such a team sport, it must be your first priority. All excused and/or unexcused absences will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Band Class:
Students should refer to the band handbook for guidelines about absence from rehearsals occurring during regular school hours or during band class. This also includes after school band rehearsals.
Performances:
It is mandatory that all members attend all scheduled performances throughout the marching season. This includes, but is not limited to games, contests, parades, community events, pep-rallies, etc. Since all students are given a calendar and for ample notice of an upcoming performance, no absence from a performance will be excused except in the case of an excused medical condition of the student or family emergency. Lack of transportation is not an emergency-- Call.
REHEARSAL CONDUCT:
Punctuality:
Rehearsals will be set in advance and all members will be given notice of dates and times of all rehearsals. All members will be at rehearsal on time and in the warm up block at the beginning of each rehearsal.
Attire:
All members must be dressed properly, have all of their equipment and be ready to start at the specified starting time. Failure to do so will result in a tardy. Tardiness will not be excused unless arrangements are made in advance with the instructor. All members need to be dressed appropriately for all rehearsals. Members of the color guard MUST wear appropriate footwear for marching and flag work. No sandals, flip-flops, bare feet, etc. will be allowed. Members must refrain from wearing clothes that limit their movement. Excessively baggy clothing should not be worn, as it creates problems with spinning. Girls with long hair need to make sure it is pulled back and out of the way.
REQUIREMENTS OF MEMBERS AFTER AUDITIONS:
